The port of lights – is located in the far west of the province of Murcia, on the N340 motorway between Murcia and Almeria. It has a population of 10,600 inhabitants. The area is largely agricultural, with olives and almonds being the main crop.
Puerto Lumbreras is also a cattle raising area. The town is spread around the base of a hill, which is crowned by an old castle. There are some good walks to be taken in the countryside around the town.
