Calasparra
Tierra de Sol, is an urbanisation on the outskirts of the Northwest Murcia town of Calasparra. The original phase of villas and apartments were constructed and occupied during 2006/2008. Following the market slump in 2008 there was a downturn in sales but 2015/16 has seen some changes and there are new villas being constructed and offered for sale.
The location and history of this area make it especially appealing. There are four rivers and two reservoirs which are a source of attraction for visitors, for the variety of activities that are possible here (potholing, canyoning, rafting etc.) The amazing natural landscape is stunning for exploring, walking and cycling.
Calasparra has more than six hundred years of existence and the history is absolutely amazing. There are caves with rupestrian paintings, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO, and archaeological sites ranging from Palaeolithic to Hispano-Muslim, with artefacts housed in the Archaeological Museum (former Encomienda building). The Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, or Our Lady of Hope, the patron saint of Calasparra, who’s Shrine excavated in the rock face forms part of a beautiful spot on the banks of the River Segura. Rice growing is another of the attractions in this area, the quality of the different varieties has given Calasparra rice worldwide fame (the first rice in Spain with Denominación de Origen).
