Many of our municipalities have just one major parade, the remainder of carnival week taken up with Drag Queen Galas, suppers, mini parades and fancy-dress competitions, but in Águilas there are parades right throughout the week, with Águilas not only the biggest carnival in the region but the trendsetter, with spectacular costumes and step-perfect dance groups.
Aguilas is justifiably the most famous Carnival in the region. as well as the largest, renowned for its flamboyant costumes, perfectly synchronized dance groups, humorous presentation, glamour and acres of feathers and glitz.
The main processions in Aguilas during 2018 are on the 11th, 13th and 17th February
Tickets are on sale now for seats along the procession route, although it is normally possible to buy seats on the night and there are plenty of places to stand if you’d rather move around during the several hours it takes for the processions to file past.
The events in Águilas begin this weekend as the gala of the paper costumes takes place, along with the free lunchtime bands concert in the Auditorium, then during the week the terrifying figure of the Mussona descends from the castle, a half-man, half-beast figure, the figures of Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma fight in the great battle of confetti eggs and then the parades begin……(click for full Águilas programme)
Elsewhere, Cartagena initiates its galas to choose the festival queens on Friday, Totana celebrates with a dog fancy dress competition and free concert and Jumilla chooses its Drag Queens
